The Open Stage

The Open Stage was built in 1958 as a school hall for what was then Christchurch West High School. In 1989 the Company began and the hall became a base for the new course of study. In 1998 a major refurbishment took place that transformed the space into a black box theatre with an open floor stage format, hence it's name The Open Stage.

In 2019 the decision was made to deconstruct the building and replace it with a new, purpose-built structure that will incorporate a theatre with attached studios for rehearsal, Dance and Drama.

As a result Hagley Theatre Company will be temporarily relocating to a St Albans satellite campus from 2020 while the rebuild begins! It offers us great opportunities to find new performance spaces and ideas.
